Industrial Project Summaries
Project Site: Wastewater Treatment Facility
Location: Connecticut, US
Property Type: Secondary Control Building
Problem: The secondary control building is for dewatering of incoming waste, employing equipment known as a belt filter press. This is a particularly odorous process. Odors within the building made for a very difficult working environment as well as odors escaping into the adjacent neighborhoods causing complaints. Additionally raw gas emanating from sludge storage tanks required expensive carbon filters to maintain odor control, which were not as effective as the plant operators desired.
Scope of Work: A completely custom designed system was engineered using twelve (12) AtmosAir 500F units and strategic designed of airflow and placement of eco-duct flexible duct material to deliver the ionized air in a precise fashion. Additionally a custom designed rooftop scrubber unit was employed to scrub odors from the sludge tanks and replace the carbon filters.
Results: Post system installation plant operators who work within the area reported dramatic improvement in the air quality and reduction of odor levels. Also odor level testing was performed on the sludge tank scrubber unit. With the unit operating odor levels are reduced by over 90%. Additionally a savings of over $30,000 per year is realized by not requiring carbon filters.
